DVSA Case Study

Project Overview:

Duwamish Valley Sustainability Association (DVSA) is an environmental nonprofit that provides free environmental education programs for youth and empowers local residents for equitable economic growth.

They came to me in need of a strategic community methodology for new project development, as well as help establishing a brand identity and other communications assets.

Main Objectives

  1. Goal setting and alignment with organizational staff

  2. Research to identify key concepts, principles, and frameworks and create a roadmap for building out internal strategy

  3. Lead a group of college interns and guide internal strategy meetings to co-design a participatory community engagement strategy rooted in principles of environmental justice and intersectionality

  4. Review each step with internal staff, incorporate feedback, and iterate as needed

Outcome

After 6+ months of dedicated co-design, DVSA was equipped with an agile community engagement methodology, grounded in intersectional principles and models, to meaningfully involve community stakeholders in the development of new projects and programs.
